The proverbial glass–half full or half empty, it’s how you see it; so it is with an artist. I see my world as an integrated whole. Light acts as a unifier; light falling across a scene will reflect the nature of that light. While the effects of light are technical aspects, my emotional input, my vision, will be in how I put the scene together, the way it moves, the speed of movement…. all reveal how I “see” my world.
Rothko, a great example of giving the world a different way to “see” refers to painting as “… a communication about the world to someone else.” Page 125,Writings on Art, Mark Rothko, a collection of notes and letters
